Day 19: More Northeast Tennessee

Let’s start with some animal statues. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg have lots of them.

This crab (one of two) is at Harpoon Harry’s Crab House in Pigeon Forge:

This giant bear in Gatlinburg is made entire of welded hardware nails:

This catfish is at the Huck Finn’s Catfish restaurant in Pigeon Forge:

This giant alligator is at Gatorland in Pigeon Forge:

Parrot Mountain is in Pigeon Forge:

This pair of sphinxes is at the Kerbela Shriners Temple in Knoxville:

This giant flip flop (and pop top) is at the Margaritaville Resort in Gatlinburg. There are dozens of other locations in the U.S. and I believe all or most of them have these statues, in different colors:

The restored, former Airplane Gas Station in Powell is now a vacation rental:

This theatre is in Clinton:

The Student Aquatics Center is at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville:

This Space Needle is in Gatlinburg:

This former Phillips 66 gas station is in Knoxville:

This former S&W Cafeteria is in Knoxville:

This cute sign is in Gatlinburg:

This sign is in Maryville. It was originally installed in Gatlinburg where it advertised for the Mountain View Hotel and the panels were painted to look like logs:

This business in Knoxville is long gone but the sign remains:

These signs are in Knoxville:

This business in Clinton is also long gone but the sign was either repainted or replicated. Surely, it had neon originally:

A great (and now rare) hillbilly sign at Ciderville Music in Powell:

Originally, advertised for the Regas Restaurant in Knoxville:

Lastly, this supermarket sign is in Clinton. There are very few of these neon Ingles signs left:

Back soon with lots more Tennessee.

A reminder or if you are new to these blog posts… as I finish adding each day’s photos to my website (roadarch.com), I post about a dozen photos to Flickr (agilitynut), then I post about a dozen other photos here and duplicate them at my other Flickr account (roadsidenut).

Happy Trails,
